~High Tea~

Welcome ya'll!  I hope everyone is having a wonderful week.  It's been beautiful here this week except for today and it has been cloudy and dreary.  We're expecting thunderstorms all day tomorrow.  I always worry about storms around my house because we have so many trees and they're old and look like they're gonna fall over any minute......right on the house is my fear :(

Anyway, let's brighten up the day with a little tea tablescape.  I'm joining Ms. Laura (what a wonderful name :), at Decor To Adore.  She's hosting High Tea Tablescapes and there's a little twist.  A couple of the most fabulous tablescapers (if that's a word) is going to judge the posts.  Ya'll all know Ms. Susan from Between Naps on the Porch and then there's Ms. Yvonne at Stonegable, these women are amazing.  There's going to be some beautiful tables posted so ya'll grab a cup of tea and head on over to check them out.

I thought I'd break out the blue and white.  Trying to spruce up the dreary day!
Sorry the pictures are so dark
but the mood is light :)
The white table cloth is overlayed with a vintage linen and gathered up around the corners of the table.  This was actually a twin size fitted sheet that had seen better days.  I cut it down and hemmed the edges up for a crisp table linen.
This was my first tea cups/set I bought.  I found them about 3 years ago at the Goodwill store for $5.99.  4 cups and saucers and serving platter.  I had to do a little research on it and it's Furnivals England and the pattern is Denmark Blue.  Furnivals was formerly known as Thomas Furnival & Sons and in January of 1913 changed their name to Furnivals and in 1968 the company's workings were closed.  I'm glad I stopped in the Goodwill store that day :)

Crisp white linen napkins with a simple blue ribbon and a little bling button for a napkin ring.  Yes, it's really a button.  I love buttons!  My MIL's silver teaspoons and blue and silver salt and pepper shakers (it took me forever to polish those baby's up!)  I'm also using my new/old crystal I just bought last week to serve some fresh lemon water.

Fresh cut lemons readily available in a relish dish (because I love lemon anything!).  The round blue and white bowl looking piece is actually a candle holder that I brought back from Germany many years ago.  My teapot is a find from the Lifeway Christian store a few years back.  The scripture on the lid says "My house will be called a house of prayer."  Matthew 21:13  The square white plates are actually platters that are usually used in a serving tier.

Tea service on my MIL's blue and white serving platter.  The silver single bud vase is one of my recent Salvation Army finds and since I didn't have a chance to grab some fresh flowers today I topped it off with a glass door knob.  I have several of these lying around the house and don't know what to do with them.  It looks like a little bling perched up there. :)

The High Tea Menu at the Wilkerson house will be
Hot Ham & Cheese Sammies
Buttered New Potatoes
Cookie Dough Truffles
Blueberry Muffins
Strawberry Cheesecake Pound cake
Strawberry Tea
&
Iced Lemon Water

Hope you enjoyed your visit.  Thanks for stopping by and come back anytime or follow along if you like.
I'll also be joining

~Mirror Makeover~

Hey ya'll!  Hope you're having a wonderful week!
It's beautiful around here.....weather's perfect, my red birds are flying around :) and we can finally....finally I tell ya, get out of the house!

I wanted to show you this old mirror i've had stashed up in a closet and decided it might just be worth changing up a bit.
Here's how it looked before
And here it is getting prepped by my sweetie!
And here it is done!
We didn't spray it down solid because it wanted some of the old gold color to come through.  What could it hurt, if I don't like it I can just spray it over again later.  But it did turn out pretty nice.

I used the oil brushed bronze color.
Oh then we went a little spray paint happy and got a hold of this lamp (I need to water that plant...eeeek!)
and candle holder.....:)

Hope you all are having a wonderful Monday!

~Projects, projects and more projects!~

Well we've kicked it in high gear this past week and have been cleaning like crazy folk!

My poor UPS man has wondered what's gotten into me but I really don't think he's complaining too much :)
See I've been into this big house purge since Christmas...and I mean purge....if I (by I, I mean we) haven't used it, seen it, needed it in the past 6 months it's gone! G-O-N-E ya'll!  It's in the trash, on the side of the street or at Goodwill or well on it's way somewhere other than here!  I'm here to tell ya....I'm done with this junk!
Cars, trucks, clothes....junk......D-O-N-E!
Mini Cooper - SOLD!  Can ya'll believe people out there are fightin' over buying this little hunk of metal!  Lordy!  If I'd known it was a quick sell I would'a done sold that little thorn in my side a loooooonnnngggg time ago.....for real!
Look, seriously!  The UPS man had to load it on the trailer with the hay baler...I mean come on!  The funny thing is when we delivered it the guy was all stoked, like "man this baby is in good shape!"....really?  I don't get it.
Whatever.....it's gone! :) :) :)

All that being said, I had my friend go with me to pick up some crystal I bought through craigslist (in case I ran into a physco who had to keep me in his basement or something) and she said "Laura, I thought you were purging your house...now why in the world are you out buying more stuff?".....Um, hello!!!! I'm purging to make more room, FOOL!"  I mean really?  The fact is that if the good Lord called me home today my house could easily...easily, be on the show hoarders.  Not really ya'll but that's how I feel with all this STUFF!
Anywho....thought I'd show you a couple of things I found on Craig's list.

Of course the crystal.  He had it listed for $30 and it was 38 pieces.  When I spoke with him he told me it was Fostoria.  Never heard of them but I look it up and the pieces are pretty pricey.  I go to replacements.com and they have an email address you can send pictures of your items and they will tell you what you have.  So they email me back and it's not Fostoria but Cris d'Arques and the pattern is Longchamp.  Never heard of that either but I love the crystal.
It even come with these little glasses.  My friend said "Those are some fancy shot glasses".....obviously we're pretty country.  I think they are called sherry glasses.

Of course when I got them home I knew I had to get a china cabinet.  So back to craigslist I go.  Found a solid maple one for $150.  SOLD!  Needless to say, we've been doing a lot of moving furniture around yesterday and today but it's all in and lookin' good ya'll! :)

I've got some cool projects coming your way this week so check back with my later on!

I'll also be joining these parties this week so come on back for a visit or hop on over and join up!

~Lil' bit of this....lil' bit of that~

Hey ya'll!
Just wanted to say hey and hello :)

We have a busy week this week so i'm not doing much blogging (not that I do that much anyway)

My sweetie and I are in the middle of a whole house purge.  This actually started a few months ago for me and he's just now jumping on the band wagon......let's just say I can be persuasive :)

NOT!!!!!  Ya'll let me tell ya, this will never, NEVER happen :p
Seriously.....
we've been doing a little of this

And I wish a little of that
Just kiddin'! Just kiddin'!

It's more like this......

We actually work well together and I love it when he's home :)

The weather is beautiful this week and we're going to take advantage of it while we can.  Hopefully next week i'll have a few finished projects that I can post for you!

What's going on in your world?

Hope you all are having a great week!

Many blessings,
Laura

~Valentine for 2~

Here's my Valentine tablescape for me and the UPS man.
Seeing as how he works nights our Valentines day is a little "shot" so I'll just wait till he gets home and we'll share a little glass of champagne and chocolate cake brownie.  Sweets for my sweetheart :)
Nothing fancy.  I used the red corduroy material that I did to make my daughters Valentine hair bow, underneath the lace.  You can see the hair bow tutorial here
Just some plain white plates.  I think these glasses are supposed to be used for wine but I use them for water.  Got them from World Market during their close out sale.  The champagne glasses (plastic) are from the Dollar tree.  I thought they were cute and there were 2 in a pack.
Here's a little key for my UPS man so he'll know he has the key to my heart. :)
Little love puppy....My son picked one out last year (when he was 5) for his little girlfriend, Shelby.  He of course picked a matching one out to keep for himself.  He said they had to have matching puppies.....how sweet is that!
Here's the only Johnson Brothers plate I own and I really like it.  I think I got it at a yard sale or the SA.
My red bird candle holder....I rarely use this.
Hope you all enjoyed my Valentine for 2 tablescape and I hope you have a wonderful Valentines Day.

I'll be joining these party's this week so head on over and join it too!

~Tabletop Tuesday~

Hey ya'll!  I hope everyone is having a great week so far :)
Monday I got the kids to school and got called back to get them in like 30 minutes because a blizzard came....I mean seriously.....Come on mother nature! This is the SOUTH!!! Ya know....
I'm Mister Green Christmas
I'm Mister Sun
I'm Mister Heat Blister
I'm Mister Hundred and One

(sorry...that's one of my fav's) anyway me and my UPS man got in the car and headed on up there and it was madness!!!!
~I fell~
~I dropped my phone in the snow~
~The car almost skidded into another car (because I was stupid and thought I could drive in the mess) I quickly got out and let him drive.~
To sum it all up.....7 minutes to get to school the first time + 30 minutes of total learning time at school = 45 minutes of sitting in line at the school to pick up the kids because it was madness!  Madness I tell you, madness!

Anywho-ha.....Thought i'd show you a little table top I set up today....This is usually my spot where I sit at night.
The table is old and worn out (I have every intention of painting that sucker....soon).
I looked through my box of fabric samples that I racked up on around Christmas through Ebay....you can check those out here.  I really like this paisley.  I had this piece of glass from something.  Don't know why I saved it but glad I did now.
I got the brass container this past weekend at the SA.
The candle holder is really meant for a candlestick but I had this votive holder that fit perfectly on there. Don't know where the candlestick holder came from but it's old and worn, like me :) Don't know if you can tell but has wooden accent on it.
This is a glass flower that my MIL used to collect them from the dollar store.....thought i'd look sweet for Valentines day coming up.
I know the lamp is not so lovely (my "those dishes are ugly" friend gave it to me)....I have a couple of lamps (really 3, 4 or 5) that need to be renovated.  I'll get to it one day and say "Why did that take me so long to do that?"

Well that's all I have for you today.  They're calling for 4 inches of snow starting at 9 in the morning so ya'll cross your fingers that these poor kids don't have to go to school all Summer.

I am writing this as the local news was on and not to far from us two school buses were coming back from Ole Miss loaded with kids taking a Senior trip.  They were side swiped by a tractor trailer truck on a 2-lane road while crossing a bridge.  As of now they only reported 3 killed, the driver of the truck and two adults.  The video footage looks absolutely terrifying and I couldn't even imagine the heartache and stress these family's are going through worrying about their children.  Please keep them all in your prayers.

I'll be joining these party's this week so head on over and join it too!

~Valentine up-do~

Hey ya'll!  I saw that Debbie at Debbiedoo's Blogging and Blabbing was having another "newbie" party so since I still meet the criteria I thought I'd join in but what quick and crafty project can I do to share with ya'll?
Then I remembered my little fashionista wanted a Valentine hair bow......so here ya go!

There's several tutes out there for these hair bows and they are easy breezy!
Just cut out a circle of felt that will cover the hair clip you decide to use...I used an alligator clip...they're easy on the little ones hair and easily adjustable.....you can also use one of those lapel pins and attach to your coat, purse or whatever.  I hot glued the felt to the clip but you can sew it on there if you like.
Then I cut like 15-20 circles of a red corduroy material.  I think most of the tutorials are using jersey material but the corduroy worked great and it was scrap and therefore free :)  I cut the corduroy around the same size as the felt and none were perfect or the same.....some were uneven......you OCC's (obsessive compulsive crafters) out there will just have to forgive me :)

I used the same technique on the circles that I used on my coffee filter wreath.....you can check that out here......just hot glue dot in the middle of circle....fold.....hot glue again....then I folded both sides in together....almost rolled it in and it looked more like a bud to me but you can do whatever is easier for you.  It'll look just fine.
I did a bunch of buds at once and then glued them on the felt....starting around the edge first and when done I had to fill in a spot or two.
This took about 20 mins and my daughter loved it!  She's already placed an order for her sleep over birthday party.  Note:  Her birthday or party isn't until March and she's driving me crazy with the details!

Welcome to all you newbies and I hope everyone enjoyed my little tutorial and are having a great Monday!

Thanks for stopping by and come back anytime or "follow" along if you like!

Deals makes me happy :)

Just thought i'd share some deals I came across this weekend.
There's a local consignment store and they were having a "Grab Bag" sale.  They give you a bag and you fill it up with whatever you want that's marked with a "red slash" and when you check out whatever is in the bag toatls up to  $15.....sounds great?
OK the bag was like the size of a gallon zip lock and as thin as "John Wayne toilet paper".  If ya'll don't know what "John Wayne toilet paper" is just message me and i'll tell ya......anyway...me and my friend go with all intentions of shoving everything in the bag we can for her granddaughter and my grandson but come to find out the red slash items were only $1 anyway....I politely just turned my bag in and got what I wanted.

Thinking I didn't get the deal of the century I went ahead and looked around in my daughters size and low and behold I found the jewel!  The deal!!!!! The reason why I only had one cup of coffee because I was rushing out the door to get there in time!!!!!!  The reason I became "Mom of the day" (Mom of the year is farrrrr stretching it around here).
Isn't she lovely......this isn't the deal but a bargin all the same....cute, cute yellow dress and only $5 but makes her feel like a million dollars....ah but this...........
this is the deal.....a Lily Pulitzer dress......with the $78 price tag still on it and I got it for $8!!!!!!! This is by far her favorite and I have to say it is her style and fits her perfect :) :)
Yay me :D

Then we jogged on down to the SA store (our GW store around her isn't so great but the SA store is:)
I found some brass items.....all tarnished up but thinking about doing a little spray painting.....we'll see...and you can't beat the price....everything in that picture was only $3.50
These salt and pepper shakers were really cute
and I found these plates for $1 a piece....I like them and they're etched "made in Italy" on the back....my friend said they were ugly so I bought them.....she gives me her ugly dishes anyway so what does she know :)  you can see those here.....gotta love her

Well ya'll have a great week and come on back anytime!
